What a Volunteer is Not: Many Compeer matches flourish for years.
But there are limits to the relationship.
Your Compeer is a supportive friend; he or she is not:
- Your chauffeur or taxi service
- Your personal assistant to run errands or to do your shopping
- Your counselor or therapist
What you can do to request a Compeer friend:
Ask your Mental Health Professional to refer you to the program. It can be any person of your treatment team, including residential counselor and case manager.
The Waiting is the Hardest Part
Making a match with a Compeer friend can be quick, but the process usually takes time. Some people referred to us have been waiting for months, others up to a year or longer (information taken from the national Compeer program reports)
